Abstract

  • Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) is a comparison of the price index received by farmers (It) to the price index paid by farmers (Ib).
  • NTP is an indicator to see the level of ability/purchasing power of farmers in rural areas. NTP also shows the exchangeability (terms of trade) of agricultural products for goods and services consumed and for production costs.
  • The East Java Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) in January 2024 fell 0.16 percent from 116.05 to 115.86. This decrease in NTP was caused by the price index received by farmers (It) increasing by 0.27 percent, lower than the increase in the price index paid by farmers (Ib) of 0.43 percent.
  • In January 2024, four agricultural subsectors experienced a decrease in NTP and one other subsector experienced an increase in NTP. The subsector that experienced the highest decline in NTP was the Horticulture subsector by 8.98 percent from 135.38 to 123.22, followed by the Fisheries subsector by 1.70 percent from 97.25 to 95.59, the Livestock subsector by 0.25 percent from 102, 48 to 102.23, and the Community Plantation Crops subsector by 0.12 percent from 107.20 to 107.07. Meanwhile, the subsector that experienced an increase in NTP was the Food Crops subsector by 1.85 percent from 120.14 to 122.36.
  • Of the five provinces on the island of Java that carried out NTP calculations in January 2024, two provinces experienced a decrease in NTP and three provinces experienced an increase in NTP. The highest decline in NTP was in Banten Province at 0.21 percent, followed by East Java at 0.16 percent. Meanwhile, the highest increase in NTP was in the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province at 1.05 percent, followed by Central Java at 0.93 percent, and West Java at 0.10 percent.
